  1. First, I would tell my friend to make sure her resume and cover letter are perfect, and that she should use the template websites just to be more organized. I would tell her to write clearly, be brief, neat, and honest when writing her resume. For a job interview, I would tell her to make sure she is dressed appropriately for the place in which she is applying to, firstly. Also, she should learn about the company, understand possible interview questions, and maintain eye contact. She should be relaxed and have good posture during the interview. Lastly, I would tell her to keep her answers brief.

  2. Out of all the above trends, the ones that would affect my future the most would be increased opportunities in health care occupations and new technology in biology. I'm glad they are positive trends! I will most likely be pursuing a career in the medical field, which is also basically health care, so I am very happy to hear that there will be more opportunities in the future. One of the reasons I have chosen to work in health care is because there will always be jobs available in that field, and knowing that it is a trend that there will be many jobs open available in this area in the future makes me very happy. Now that I know this, I am even more sure I want to go into the medical field.

  3. So far this semester has been a bit more challenging than the previous one. I am taking the same class load of 12 hours, yet it seems the current classes are more demanding. To this point I am managing to stay ahead of the workload, but it has been difficult with work and family demands. Both boys are in sports, so I try to utilize practice times to read or complete assignments. I have sacrificed football on Sunday, in order to spend time at the library. I find that is a good environment for me to work in. I am focused and determined as this is the final semester for me. I just need to stay committed and get the work done.

    1. I can agree with you 100% it is very hard to juggle all the school work demand and the demand of personal life. What I do is I try to schedule my school work as if it was a clock in shift for work or a set time like your child's practices and try not to fail yourself on that time. Look ahead at your week and make sure the study times are at all possible so there isn't a possibility of missing that study time. Good luck with this semester keep up the hard work!

  4. I am in the heart of Generation X, stuck between the past and the future with forces pulling me in all directions. As with many in this category, I am educated but my current employment does not match my education level. I feel I possess a very strong work ethic and am very detail oriented. My future career choices seem to be diminishing daily, as I am not getting any younger. Many companies are not keen on hiring new workers close to 50 years old. I had always hoped to find a great job once I retired from the Navy, but that hope seems to be slipping away. I am not willing to relocate and that could be directly hindering my search for that great job. I understand that, but my family is part of this community and I am not willing to uproot all of them. The search will continue.

  5. So far this semester is going fairly well, although there have been a couple ups an downs it has been an overall plus. In spite of this being my first year in college I have been able to keep up with the assignments and have had only a few mishaps. The only thing that has nearly set me back was when I accidentally uploaded the incorrect assignment though, thanks to our Professor, I was able to correct that mistake with relatively little issue. As for a first class this is going exceptionally well in my book, and I hope that I can continue with this performance for the majority of my college career.

As for roadblocks the biggest one would have to be my issues with keeping motivation and sticking with things. This class has taught me a whole plethora of ways to deal with such issues and I am actively working towards applying the things that I have learning in this class. Not only have I learning that rewarding myself to promote proper conduct can form good habits, but I have also been introduced to the power of positive thinking. Taking this class has most definitely been a great experience as it has taught me that having a brighter outlook may just improve how things turn out, even if it seems like that wouldn't affect anything.

  6. If one of my friends asked for help with an interview I would tell him/her a few things. Firstly, I would tell him or her that it is very important to dress professional. He or she should wear black or neutral colors depending on the job. In addition, I would say to look up the company before the interview so they know more about it; and to get a better idea of whether or not the job is good for them. Thirdly, I would mention to stay relaxed during the interview. Also when asked about flaws, I would tell them to make weaknesses sound like strengths. I would mention a few key pointers such as keeping eye contact, sitting up straight, and to shake the interviewers hand when he or she walked into the room. Lastly, just think about the good things he or she could bring to the job and make sure to try their hardest.

  7. I am from generation millennial. I was born in 1994 and this generation ranges from 1977-1995. My generation is supposed to be going to college soon, therefore causing colleges to gain more students. For this reasons it will be a bit more challenging to get into colleges. This generation has three times as more than generation X and will soon have even more than the Baby Boomers. My generation is said to be more open minded. We are also call ourselves " happy, confident, and positive." The use of drugs and alcohol is decreasing. We value uniqueness and individuality. In addition we are respectful and think about our parents opinions even if we don't agree with them. "Lastly we are cooperative team players."

  8. The semester for me is going pretty good so far, I have noticed a few road blocks and challenges though. I am a full time hairstylist that is all about her money. The hardest part about that is I want to be at work all the time because that is money in my hand right away. On the other hand my education is here to help me make some more money in my business in the long run so in reality they both need to be done. Which I know is very possible but lately I have been a little behind on my school work and have been cramming it in because the money at work has been calling me and taking up most of my time and when I am done with that I find myself saying I will do my school work later because now I am tired. I also stick to a strict workout schedule that seems to happen more then school also, I am not saying I am falling back all the way and failing or anything, I just realize I am not giving my full effort into my school work like I have been to my careen and my workouts. I have been trying to get use to this school thing seeing how it has not been in my routine for over 9 years so what I do is I try and make myself a schedule to follow throughout the whole week and when to study and what to study just like I have a schedule for working out and going to work. This has helped me a little and I feel as I go on with the semester I will get better and better at it and be able to juggle my 3 priorities in life. I love challenges so I will accept this and work my hardest to get it done!!

    1. It is difficult to manage work, exercise and school. You are doing a great job with all of it, so hang in there. Once it is in a pattern, it does get easier.

  9. Make a comment about how this semester is going for you. Are you facing any challenges or roadblocks? How can you deal with them?

This semester for me so far has been very good, yet the most challenging semester I have taken so far. It’s challenging because I am taking a very hard anatomy class with a 12 more units. Some challenges I have faced was figuring out how to make enough time to study as needed to succeed in all my classes as well as working a part time job, I have currently lowered my work hours to focus more of my time on school and every day I study for a least 2-4 hours so that way by the time an exam comes around I don't feel extremely overwhelmed.

  10. What is your generation? Baby Boomer? Generation X? New Millennial? Generation Z? How will your generation affect your future career choices?

I found these different generations very interesting to read about! My generation would be the New Millennial. Its true many women now days at my age 20 have the mind set and quality to pursue a degree to be able to be finically stable without the help of a significant other. Some challenges are college education its nearly impossible to get into the classes you need which hold you back from getting a degree and on top of just getting into the classes you need if you don't have a very high cumulative GPA its very hard to get accepted to programs in schools. Although the competitiveness for this generation and how hard it is to get into nursing programs I will just keep trying until I have the career of my dreams.

  11. The tips I would give to a friend before going into an interview, to always make sure you are dressed professionally, and i prefer having a resume in a clear folder, just so it doesn't ruin. Always have a smile on your face, and look confident. Make sure your resume is up to date, and everything on resume is true information. Make sure its what you really did. Don’t lie! Having information that will help you get the job. Always have eye contact, and try to answer all the questions with the best of your ability.

  12. Sometimes I have Roadblocks, since I’m taking English and Math this semester I try to juggle homework in Math, and reading and writing essays in English which sometimes for me its hard. I try to balance both subjects, since for Math my teacher doesn't collect the homework, so when I have more english to do, I will just ignore it, and realize I can’t do that, because when the test come I will be confused. Now I take 40 minutes a day working on math, and making sure I know the sections. Then I will continue to do the my english, which is reading writing, and vocabulary, which is harder. I think I’m getting use to everything. I expect having roadblocks but I know I can get through them.

  13. If I had to give a friend advice for an important job interview I would start by giving them advice about their cover letter and resume. The cover letter should consist of why they think they are a potential fit for the job and what job position it is. The resume should contain your name, address, phone number and email. It should be a truthful statement of your job experiences and a list of references they can call. During your job interview you should firmly shake the interviewer's hand, make eye contact, smile, and prepare yourself with typical interview questions.

  14. This semester is going pretty well for me. I have been doing very well in some classes and not so well in others. I have been working 2 weekdays so far and weekends as well, but it feels like too much sometimes. I usually only have one day out of the week to do all of my homework which is not good. I am going to try to solve my problem by either asking for an extra day off of work or doing my homework in the mornings before school to help reduce the amount of homework i have to do at least.

  15. The is my first semester in college and so far it is going good and I have been enjoying it. It is a very different experience then high school because I'm always meeting new people from all ages. In high school it was always being around the same people everyday and they were always around my age but in college I get to meet new people and from different ages. The biggest challenge I have faced is finding a parking spot not too far from campus and I have dealt with that by going early to my courses and having enough time to find a parking spot so I'm not late to class. Another challenge I faced in the first couple weeks of my courses is that my professors lecture all the time and I take notes on everything but now I am trying to take more clear notes and more detailed notes of key points or ideas rather then trying to write down everything they say. I have been doing good so far with note taking by doing Cornell style notes with different color pens. I also enjoy the discussions we have in class because we get to ask questions and get opinions from other students. This is a new experience for me and I have made mistakes but I learn from them and correct myself.

  17. I am really enjoying college so far. I am doing good in my classes but they are definitely getting harder. I love meeting new people even though most of them are a lot younger than I am. My math class is basically no class participation and my English class is mostly all class participation and group projects. I like that they are so different. My learning style is more comfortable in group settings and a lot of class participation. I am looking into taking more classes and working less hours next year too. I am happy that I decided to go back to school. At first I thought it was going to be crazy with all of this technology but it's not too bad.

  18. If I had to give a friend advise for a job interview I would tell him or her to do research on the company that they were interviewing for. I have not had to apply for a job for many years but I never would of thought to do this in the past. It is a great idea to give the impression that you are interested in the job. Also, first impressions are important and my advise would be to make sure to make a good one, dress for the job and don't talk too much but enough to seem interesting. I would say it's a good idea to show up a little early and don't be overly eager to end the interview. Be yourself and relax. Lastly, have references and job history readily available.

  19. I was born into the last part of Generation X. Being an X’r I have learned to adapt to a changing society. I have a good work ethic which makes me a valuable employee. As the boomers retire, I believe I am in need of obtaining a higher education as the demand for my qualities will be needed. It is also my belief that as our society adopts a “green” standard of living (with the demand for a more earth friendly lifestyle) there will be a greater demand for creativity and innovation in my future career as an architectural engineer.

  20. What is your generation? Baby Boomer? Generation X? New Millennial? Generation Z? How will your generation affect your future career choices?

My generation is millennia I was born in 1994 and the millennia ranges to 1997 to 1995. In my generation it’s going to be the biggest generation to attend college it will get more challenging to get in college also. In this generation describe themselves as happy, confident, and positive and in generation millennial the use of alcohol, drugs, and tobacco is decreasing and homicides, violent crime, abortion, and teen pregnancy are decreasing rapidly also. In generation millennial job are going to be probably be short term contracts no more life time job.

If one of my friends are going to a job interview the advice I would give them is make sure your cover letter and resume is up to date. I would also say to them is be yourself act confident but not be to confident and say yes or no . I would also say do some researches on the company little bit before going into the interview. I also will help them pick out a nice outfit for the interview and wait in till the person that is interview asks for your resumes and good luck you will do great.

  22. Some of the challenges I’m facing this semester are job, family, and school. These challenges can be good and bad. The bad news I am facing are the job that I work in. I have a fulltime schedule which is affecting my sleeping time and homework. Second, I have family that need time from me, so I could go out with them. While the good news are that I’m challenging all this and still doing good with homework and school time, but only one thing affect me I am not getting enough time for sleep. The rest I’m doing really well. So, I have to challenging some of them and get enough sleep so to be able to do my homework and rest my body.

    2. Hi Walhan! I can completely relate to your situation. I am also working full time, in school full time and trying to balance those things with family time. Most of the students I speak with are not working and are fresh out of high school so it is reassuring to hear that there are people in a similar situation as myself. I also want to put school before work, like you. I cannot afford to quit completely but am going to switch to part time. Good luck in your schooling and thank you for sharing!

  23. My decision was to quit my job to become a fulltime student and be successful. I made my decision based on the value of a good student. My family disagreed with that, they wanted me to do both at the same time. I was upset about their decision and did not want to study and work at the same time. I was working in a job that was over whelming and I wanted to spend more time at school. I did not want to put my family’s feelings of being a good student and worker down, so I decided to do both and be both full time. Now, I am doing a very good job in both so far I have been successful.

  24. I will try to help as much as I can and try to be specific more about it but not sure what would I tell them to do because I have not been involved in that situation before but I will tell them to keep looking after a good education that pays good money after spending all this time at school. Regarding interview will be easy because they have got something in hand and that is not going to matter much because what matters is that the education and that can provide them a lot choices and that will makes them more comfortable.

  25. I see I am putting a lot of time in school but sometimes I feel that I am off the road. School is important to everyone including me and that’s why I am taking this counseling class just trying to figure out where is the issue of being out of the road. My challenge for this semester will be to know what exactly must done for the entire of the school journey, because I have no time to waste and as quick as I finish my education that will be one of my task needed to be done because I think school is important to me and everybody.

  26. First, I would tell my friend to make sure his resume and cover letter are acceptable, and that he should make sure that every thing is describing him self very truly. I would tell him to write something interesting about himself which could make the reader likes his personality, be smart, organized, and explain your life experience that he had. For a job interview, I would tell him to explain what position that he like to work on and explain why he likes that position. He should know every thing about the company that he is applying to so he can have a good idea what type of questions he will be At the end I would tell him to answer each question very carefully.

  27. This semester has been a bit more challenging than all of the previous ones. I am taking 14 units classes which part time job, it seems bit hard for me to focus on both but I am sure I can handle it and pass all my classes. I planing to transfer to San Diego State University because I believe in my self that I should finish everything fast so I can get through my major. My family wants me to focus on college more than work and I agree with them but these days it is hard to work one thing, so I have to face all the challenges and be successful. Math for me is the hardest subject which I have trying my best to pass it so I can finish my general education requirements. I find that is a good thing for me to work and go college at the same time so I can keep my self busy. I will try my best to pass all my classes and keep going through my educational goals.

  28. So far this semester has been going for me very well. I am doing very well in all of my classes and i am also not having to rush to do my homework, as i used to do before. Even though that this semester is going by very smoothly, I am kind of facing some challenges or roadblocks. Those challenges or roadblocks are getting bored of doing the work. Many times i get bored of doing my homework or having to study and I end up not studying at all due to boredom. I find a way to deal with this challenge by trying to make the subject that I am studying seem interesting to me. To illustrate, when I study history I try to put the present period along side the period i am studying to determine the changes that there is in the present period, or in math I try to make the wording problem a part of my daily life to determine the numbers of a certain thing that i am trying to reach. Compared to my previous semesters this semester by far is one of my best semester, for I am able to do all my work in time and not having to panic about it and also by finding new ways to deal with the challenges that i face during studying.

  29. I am in the new millennial generation. I feel that most people in the other generation feel that we are lazy and do not want to do anything. I feel that this part is 50/50. I see some of my generation that want everything handed to them. This is not going to happen in this generation at all. There are some of us that want to go to school to get an education; therefore, we can have a nice career at the end. This generation most students are going back to school for this reason. We want to work but there is still not a lot of work. The effect our generation is going to have on us will be a good one because we are going to school to get the education that we want. We want to have that college diploma hanging up in our house.

  30. Interviews have always been really easy for my friends and me. Most of us went to Steele Canyon and the teachers were giving the students tip all the time. We had a class called cougar class where we learn how to do well in an interview. When you go into an interview, you needs to be nicely dressed. First impressions are everything and you need to be confidante when you go in and sit down. Tell yourself when you go into the interview that I will get the job. Your resume needs to be neat and organized so the employer can read it and understand where and what you have been doing.

  31. This semester is going really well for me so far because I am getting good grades in my classes. I am doing all my homework and have not missed an assignment. I have been doing everything the teachers ask me to do. I participate in class discussions and am not afraid of expressing my opinion on topics. A challenge I have faced so far is when some of the work is hard and I get stressed out about it. When I am confused I ask the teacher for help. So far the work has not been overwhelming and I am on the right track.

  32. The advice I would give to a friend that had a job interview would be to dress professionally. Show up to the interview earlier than you are supposed to, to show them you are serious about getting the job. I would recommend researching the company so that you know more about it. I would also tell them to not be nervous and act confident. Another tip I would tell my friend would to be truthful on your resume and not lie about anything. I would tell them to write the resume clearly. Make sure to maintain eye contact to show them that your interested.

  33. This semester has been okay so far. My course load is manageable but sometimes feels overwhelming. Especially because I also work as well. And also because I am working on my time management. It feels like a repetitive process, college. I try to do my best, pay attention, and stay up to date on my work as possible.

  34. I am considered to be Generation Z because I was born in 1996. Generation Z is the generation that is the most diverse in all things. As well as technologically advanced. Girl Power is in demand amongst open mindedness. It will affect my future career greatly. Since I am considering computers or maybe a science. I also am considering business, so I would hope to thrive in my future successes. And live a comfortable life.

  35. This class has been very helpful in learning why certain things haven’t worked out for me in former semesters. This semester has been somewhat easier I believe that it is because of my lack of understanding when it comes to my strengths and short comings. In the past I have struggled with procrastination therefore I have chosen to opt to more effective planning. I have noticed that I am easily distracted so I tend to sit in the front of the class in order to keep my attention focused on the professor. My level of motivation and engagement is much higher speaking to a counselor and learning where I stand has helped me realize where I need to be. I feel that giving my education the proper attention is paying off and my grades are improving. Not letting distractions become setbacks has been an important factor for my success. At times stress kicks in due to my other responsibilities, in those times I try to remember to take things once step at a time and keep working until it is all finished. It is much too overwhelming to try to take anything on at once. It is important not to feel defeated after small bumps in the road, like a missed lecture or low grade on a quiz. It is important to get past it and keep moving forward.

  36. What tips would you give to a friend before he or she interviewed for a job that was really important?

If I had a friend preparing for a interview the first thing I would take a look at was their resume. I feel that a resume that is done the correct way goes a long way and it is the first document that you give the employer that shows that you can follow directions. When I was a manager interviewing I would not like it when I would get resumes that were 2-3 full pages of information. I was also discouraged to hire someone who had to many jobs listed in previous work history since it looked like they are the type of person to move around to much and would not take this job any more serious than the ones before. The next thing I would tell my friend to do would be to practice interview questions. I feel that it is very important to be prepared for your interview and even though you don't know what they will ask you there are always basic questions that revolve around your previous experience that you can prepare for. People who don't interview well are usually underprepared and can not think on their toes to come up with quick answers. I would remind my friend that durning the interview pay attention to what they are asking, one it will take your mind off of how nervous you are feeling and two it will help you understand what is being asked so you can answer effectively. If you still don't understand the question ask open ended questions to clarify any confusion. If you are asked about an area you struggle in, turn your negative into a positive possibly by stating a way that you have worked around it to become stronger in that area. If you are asked about why you left a previous employer always keep it positive, never bash anyone or any company because that is a bad image of who your character instead focus on the positive reasons for leaving like career advancement. Finally in the end of the interview when you are asked questions don't focus salary or when do I start. Ask questions that show that you are interested in the company and what it has to offer, this is a time that you can show you have done research on the company and state what you know and ask what other possibilities can come out of a career with them. Always keep eye contact, keep good posture and shake hands and never forget to smile.

  37. Advice that I would give to a friend who is looking for a job and needs help about jobs interviews and resumes is always be prepared and organized. Make sure your resume is well written and organized and points out all his/her qualities about themselves and their experience background. When going into an interview he/she should make sure that they are dressed appropriately and are on time and well prepared. Known all the questions that will be asked and be aware of what might be asked of you and unexpectedly. Also, make sure to stay confident and not get too nervous and act like you know what you are doing. Once you get all these steps down, creating a resume and being interviewed for a job won't be so bad.

  38. So far this semester has not been too challenging. I almost feel like I am still in high school but just with a lot more freedom and a little bit of a heavier workload. One roadblock for me is procrastinating. I always end up leaving all my homework unfinished till the last day which is an extremely bad habit that I want to overcome. Also taking 15 units has kind of taken a toll on me and can be a bit challenging to manage sometimes. One thing also that has still not become a habit for me yet it checking blackboard every single day and checking what I assignments or announcements I have that day. I am so used to my teachers constantly nagging me about what I have due, and now in college they usually will not remind you and just expect you to already know which has been hard. These are so many things that I am dealing with this semester but I hope I can get the hang of everything and be successful.

  39. If my friend came to me looking for advice before trying to get an important job, I would tell my friend that he/she should try to put together a resume that is neat, concise and informative. I'd suggest he/she look up some examples of resume format and give them insight on what to put (if they didn't know): name, contact information, education; achievements, future interests, letters of recommendation/references. Next, I would try to help my friend prepare for the job interview. I'd suggest they look up the company and read their motto and try to find some information on the employer and employees. Social media could be a very useful tool in this stage. I'd suggest to him/her that we set up a mock interview and run through commonly asked interview questions to give my friend the chance to think about the answers.

If my friend was really feeling conversational, I would discuss with him/her the "three-part foundation" made up of 1: personal qualities, such as responsibility, self esteem and self management; 2: basic skills-- reading & writing, listening & speaking, & basic arithmetic; and finally, part 3: thinking skills, this include thinking creatively, making decisions and reasoning.

  40. This semester has been going great for me so far. I feel like I haven’t put to much pressure on myself by taking too many classes. I feel like I took the right amount of classes for me to balance all of them. I came straight from high school, so college to me is more interesting and more exciting and I feel like I am more energized and more willing to put effort in my education and in completing all my tasks. It has been getting a little challenging lately because I have been going through some personal problems and I lately haven’t been able to keep my mind off if it which distracts me from my school work.

  41. If my friend was getting interviewed for an important job, I would tell my friend to firstly dress appropriately for the job he/she is applying for. I would also tell my friend to research some possible questions related to the job title before the interview so that he/she has a sense of what types of questions they should expect and how they should answer them. I would also tell my friend to understand the company or workplace that they are applying for and do a little research on them and find out information on what they look for in an employee.

  42. Make a comment about how this semester is going for you. Are you facing any challenges or roadblocks? How can you deal with them?

This semester is not going well so far. Even though I’m trying my best, but challenges and obstacles never end. I believe that I took a lot of classes this semester. But I usually tell myself that this is my first semester, and some problems may occur. In the other hand I believe that college and education is the best thing for me. I always try to manage my classes and do great in them.

  43. What tips would you give to a friend before he or she interviewed for a job that was really important?

The tips that I would give to my friend is to let him know that he must be confident and sure that he really want this job and he will do his best. Second I will tell him to be prepared for the interviewer’ questions and he must know all the answers. Third is to talk about his achievements. Fourth is to not be nervous instead he must make it real. Fifth is to use appropriate language in order to really get a job a person must consider those steps.

  44. Make a comment about how this semester is going for you. Are you facing any challenges or roadblocks? How can you deal with them?

This semester has been challenging for me. It is my first semester and I think that I may have bitten off more than I can chew. I am working full time, in school full time, have a 5-year-old and am trying to regularly volunteer at a local animal rescue center. I think I am going to cut back on my work schedule and maybe take a day or two off so that I can focus more on my school work. I am overwhelmed but staying motivated and will do what it takes to make enough time for school.

  45. The effects of the career trends; new green careers, developments of technology, and the effect of terrorism will and has influenced my decisions about my future. Construction is at the beginning of an evolutionary change. New technology in building materials is making possible to create new ways of building that are Eco-Friendly. There is a need for improvement and innovation as Society changes its perspective on the importance of preserving Earth's resources through "green" technology.
Terrorism and the need for security is also changing the future of Construction. Families are creating homes that are multi-purpose as fear of danger grows. They want new designs that allow them to live and play without leaving the safety of their homes. This will increase the demand for creativity in its design.
